Women's Volleyball Home Opener Gets Spoiled By Avila

ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The Fontbonne University women's volleyball team fell in straight sets in both contests against Avila this afternoon.

Game One

Final: Avila 3, Fontbonne 0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-18)

Location: DSAC

Records: Avila 3-7, Fontbonne 0-5

How It Happened

The Eagles were able to take the first set 25-16 on 11 kills and a .550 hitting percentage. From there, the Eagles went on to take the second set and the third set for the sweep over the Griffins.

Inside The Numbers

  • Fontbonne totaled 23 kills and 22 errors for a .010 hitting percentage.
  • Defensively, they finished with 45 digs and a season-high eight block assists.
  • Avila concluded with 31 kills and a .244 hitting percentage.

Avila Leaders

  • Katelyn Payan and Maria Valleroy each had a team-high eight kills.
  • Lauren Harrell and Chloe Brundick combined for 23 of the 28 assists.
  • Defensively, Aspen Kridner earned a match-high 17 digs.

Fontbonne Leaders

Final: Avila 3, Fontbonne 0 (25-12, 25-9, 25-20)

How It Happened

The Eagles opened the contest with a 25-12 opening set victory. Avila was able to take the second set 25-9 and hang on for the 25-20 set and match win in the finale.

Inside The Numbers

  • The Griffins finished with 24 kills and .038 hitting percentage.
  • On the defensive side of the net, the team tied its season-high with 50 digs and four blocks.
  • Avila, meanwhile, ended with 31 kills and a .245 hitting percentage.
  • At the service line, the Eagles ended with 10 service aces. They tied Fontbonne with 50 digs.

Avila Leaders

  • Katelyn Payan led the Eagles with a match-high 13 kills and .414 hitting percentage.
  • Lauren Harrell handed out 15 assists and Kridner concluded the day with 10 digs.
