LOUISVILLE, Ky.—The Fontbonne University women's volleyball team fell in straight sets (17-25, 13-25, 15-25) against Bluffton on Friday to begin the Spalding University Quad Match.
The Griffins (1-4), compiled 31 kills and a season-low .060 hitting percentage. It was also the first time this year the team didn't record a service ace.
Maura Rabun led with seven kills and a team-high .333 hitting percentage. Kristina Eason contributed seven kills, a .308 hitting percentage, and nine assists. Victoria Curtice, meanwhile, added six kills and nine digs of her own. Megan Schaller led with 12 assists, while Olivia Tallo had a season-high 10 digs.
Bluffton (3-7), totaled 32 kills, a .307 hitting percentage, 31 assists, 37 digs, and 14 block assists. Individually, Jesse Gibson led with eight kills and a match-high .500 hitting percentage.
Setter Erin Weisgarber handed out a match-high 24 assists, while Abby Rohrbach led the group defensively with eight digs.
It was back-and-forth play throughout the first set, though the Griffins grabbed a 15-14 lead on a kill from Curtice. However, the Beavers closed out the opening set on an 11-3 run for the 25-17 win.
In the second, the Beavers grabbed an early advantage, but the Griffins were right there down 14-9 on Tallo's kill. Bluffton rattled off a 4-0 run and finished off the set, outscoring Fontbonne 11-4, winning 25-13.
In the third, the Beavers took advantage of the Griffins 11 kills and 10 error performance, allowing them to take the set and the match, 25-15.
Fontbonne looks to bounce back tomorrow morning against Spalding at 11 a.m., followed by a 1 p.m., outing against Greenville.
