How It Happened

In the first half, the Golden Eagles opened with a 7-2 shot advantage in the first 30:00 minutes of play but it remained a scoreless contest. Then, in the 36th minute, the Golden Eagles broke through. Alioune Cisse received a pass near the top of the box and tapped it in past Griffins net-minder, Eric Volk, to give them a 1-0 lead.

In the 38th minute, the Golden Eagles struck again. After a foul was called on the Griffins just outside the box, the Golden Eagles were awarded a free-kick. Omar Mukoma took the attempt, it went off a Fontbonne player, and right to Trustun Ashburn for the tap-in goal.

In the second half, the Griffins totaled six shots, but Spalding's goalie, Trevor Massa, was able to come up with two saves, and that was enough to secure the shutout win.
