ELSAH, Ill.—The Fontbonne University cross country teams had its first meet this morning at the Principia Home Opener and the Griffins had standout performances on both the men's and women's teams.
On the women's side, the team closed out in fifth place with 123 points. Overall, Missouri Baptist took home the win with five top-10 finishers. Individually, Maryville's Megan Seibel crossed the line in first with a time of 16:01.50.
Fontbonne, meanwhile, was led by newcomer Desiree Brooks. The St. Louis, Missouri, native clocked out with a time of 20:17.20 for a top-25 finish. Right behind her was Sarah Rhoads as she set a new personal-record time of 20.32.87 in the 4K.
On the men's side, Maryville University won the overall with 16 total points as all of its runners finished in the top-seven. RJ Brown claimed first place for the Saints with a time of 20:57.75.
Jacob Dixon, Austin Joyce and, Juwan Lee represented the Griffins today. Dixon, a Sullivan, Mo., native, sprinted the final stretch to finish in 17th at 24:11.32. Joyce was right on his heels throughout the race and he ended the morning run at 24:13.39 for 18th. Lee, meanwhile, finished strong for Fontbonne at 28:01.82.

The Griffins return to action next Friday at the UIS Prairie Star Invite in Springfield, Ill.
