Women's Volleyball Falls On The Road Against Iowa Wesleyan

Mount Pleasant, Iowa.—The Fontbonne University women's volleyball team dropped a tough four-set (15-25, 25-21, 20-25, 18-25) match against Iowa Wesleyan tonight.

The Griffins (9-14; 8-9 SLIAC), totaled 43 kills, a .151 hitting percentage, and 12 block assists. Kristina Eason led with 12 kills and a .154 hitting percentage. Megan McKenzie slammed down seven, while Emma Seiz and Karsyn Kulick tied with six kills each.

Abby Grumich dished out a team-high 19 assists. Defensively, Sarah Borgerding led with 12 digs and Victoria Curtice contributed 11.

The Tigers (9-19; 6-11 SLIAC), concluded with 54 kills and a .224 hitting percentage. Individually, Lida Landre posted a match-high 14 kills, while Sydney Ellsworth got it done with 13 and a .346 hitting percentage.

On the defensive side of the net, a trio of IWU players had at least 10 digs and leading the way was Paige Kammerer's 13.

After a kill from Maura Rabun put the Griffins down 5-4 in the first, the Tigers rattled off a 9-0 run to take a comfortable 14-4 lead. It was all IWU the rest of the way as they won, 25-15.

In the second, the Griffins got going with a 10-6 lead on Curtice's kill. Later, a kill from Kulick put the team in control at 20-14. IWU trimmed the deficit down to 24-21, though an attack error by the Tigers gave Fontbonne the 25-21 victory.

It was the Griffins taking the early advantage in the third with a 10-8 lead on an IWU service error. The Tigers rattled off a 4-0 run and expanded its lead to 18-12 on a Fontbonne attack error.

Down 21-18, the Griffins went on a 3-0 run capped off by Rabun's kill to tie it up. However, Iowa Wesleyan collected the final four points for the win.

In the fourth, the Griffins took a 15-14 lead on an IWU attack error. However, the Tigers closed out the set on an 11-3 run for the 25-18 set and match win.

Fontbonne closes out its conference slate on the road this Friday against Greenville. First-service goes up at 7 p.m.
