Wiele And Tyus Pick Up Singles Wins Against Blackburn

CARLINVILLE, Ill.—The Fontbonne University women's tennis team battled Blackburn for over four hours today, but the Beavers were able to come away with the 7-2 win.

How It Happened

In doubles play, the Beavers swept past the Griffins to own the 3-0 lead. In singles play, the Griffins started a comeback run.

Jordan Sampson nearly came away with a win at No. 2 singles, though Erica Bechtold fended her off in the third for the 6-0, 7-5, 11-9 win. At No. 3 singles, Andrea Wiele picked up her first win on the year after defeating Rachel Bly, 2-6, 6-4, 10-8.

Riane Tyus also won at No. 5 singles 7-5, 6-2, however, the Beavers picked up wins at the other singles matches for the 7-2 victory.
