Women's Tennis Falls In Its Season Opener Against STLCOP

ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The Fontbonne University women's tennis team got its 2018-19 season underway on Saturday, but the St. Louis College of Pharmacy Eutectics came away with the 9-0 win.

The Griffins gave everything they had against STLCOP, however, the Eutectics went on to sweep singles action. In doubles play, Jordan Sampson and Sarah Johnson performed well in the tough 8-6 defeat at the No. 2 spot against Emily Gautier and Dominique Vu.

No. 4 – Sophia Kowhawk (STLCOP) def. Sarah Johnson (Fontbonne), 6-1, 6-2

No. 5 – Dominique Vu (STLCOP) def. Philyce Webb (Fontbonne), 6-1, 6-1

No. 6 – Kelsie Hutson (STLCOP) def. Lakayline Davis (Fontbonne) 6-0, 6-1

Doubles Action

No. 1 – Stevenson/Anderson (STLCOP) def. Murphy/Kottmeyer (Fontbonne), 8-0

No. 2 – Gautier/Vu (STLCOP) def. Sampson/Johnson (Fontbonne), 8-6

No. 3 Zyranova/Kowhawk (STLCOP) def. Davis/Webb (Fontbonne), 8-0

The team looks to bounce back tomorrow afternoon at 12 p.m., against Oakland City from Dwight Davis Tennis Center.
