Rogers and Smith win singles over Rend Lake
Morgan Smith earned her first collegiate victory, defeating her opponent 6-2, 6-3 in the second singles slot.
St. Louis, Mo. - On a cold, sunny afternoon, Fontbonne women's tennis fell to Rend Lake 7-2. The Griffins continue to search for their first win of the season.
In doubles, senior Mariana Rogers and freshman Morgan Smith were leading 5-4 in number one doubles before succumbing to Rend Lake 8-6.
As the weather turned colder, the Griffins' performances heated up. Fontbonne finished the game winning two of their final three matches. Smith took down her opponent at number two singles 6-2, 6-3, earning her first collegiate victory. Rogers also won in the top singles position 6-1, 6-3.
Fontbonne's match against Marian University on Tuesday has moved indoors to Frontenac Raquet Club and pushed back to 9 p.m. The Griffins have already had to postpone at least three matches this season due to the weather. The move was made in order to ensure the game could be played due to the long travel by Marian.
