Women's Tennis finishes season on high note

St. Louis, Mo. - Seeded sixth in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament, the Fontbonne women's tennis team defeated Blackburn 5-3 to finish in fifth place, and finish the year with a victory.

Fontbonne fell to Westminster 5-0 earlier in the day before all singles competitions were completed. That loss ensured that the Griffins would be taking on the Beavers for the third time this season in the afternoon round for bragging rights. 

Mediha Husejnovic battled back from a close first-set loss to win 6-1 before conceding an even closer tiebreaker. Hannah Edmundson also fell 7-6 in her singles tiebreaker match while Amanda Maloney fought hard losing 6-4 in each of her singles sets. Fontbonne's top two singles games from Mariana Rogers and Celeste Herrmann each dominated, winning 6-0, 6-0. Rogers has secured a victory against Blackburn's Karlee Brimberry each of the three times the duo have faced off this year. Bailey Benes secured the Griffins' third singles win as she is now undefeated (2-0) in singles matches in her first collegiate season. Herrmann finished the season 3-4 in singles competition. 

Blackburn forced doubles play as the teams were tied 3-3 but Fontbonne won the first two to tally their first win of the season. Edmundson and Rogers teamed up for their third doubles win of the year while it was the first time Herrmann and Benes joined forces for Benes' first career doubles victory.

The Griffins will lose noone from this year's spring roster due to graduation.
