The 2019 season marks Coach Hoener's ninth season at the helm of the women's soccer program and 19th year overall at the University. Hoener served as Fontbonne men's soccer head coach from 2000-2010 and was the head coach of both programs from 2011-2014. He has since served as the head women's coach and assistant men's coach, making 2017 his 22nd head coaching season.
In 2018, the Griffins advanced into the SLIAC Tournament for the 10th time in the last 11 years. In the semifinals, the Griffins fell in penalty kicks against Westminster.

In 2016, the Griffins advanced to the SLIAC Tournament Championship game for the first time since 1996. Fontbonne came up a goal short but the Griffins finished the season with a 12-7-2 overall record and just one conference loss (8-1).
In 2015 he achieved his 200th career win and is Fontbonne's winningest coach of both soccer programs. The women's soccer program has achieved many record-setting moments under Hoener's guidance. Hoener took Fontbonne women's soccer to the SLIAC Tournament each of his first four years as head coach, narrowly missing a tough 2015 conference tournament bid. Coach Hoener has led Fontbonne to a total of four St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) regular season championships (2003, 2004, 2008), two SLIAC Tournament Championships (2004 & 2006) and three appearances in the NCAA Division III National Tournament (2003, 2004, 2006) for the men. His men's coaching record at Fontbonne is 155-107-33.
