Men's And Women's Track And Field Picked To Finish Fourth In SLIAC Preseason Poll
ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) released its 2023 Track and Field Poll today and both the Fontbonne men’s and women’s teams are picked to finish fourth.
ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) released its 2023 Track and Field Poll today and both the Fontbonne men's and women's teams are picked to finish fourth.
On the men's side, the Greenville Panthers hold the top spot with 49 points and seven first-place votes. Principia follows in second with 42 points and a first-place vote, while Webster edged out Fontbonne for third with 38 points.
Last year, the Griffins finished sixth at the SLIAC Indoor and Outdoor Championships. This year, the Griffins bring back a wealth of talent in KeYonn Hall-Baker, Ian Cordell, and Andre Webb to name a few.
Hall-Baker currently holds the program record in the high jump finishing in second place at both the indoor and outdoor championships last season. Cordell also holds the program record in the javelin.
The Griffins welcome in plenty of newcomers that include Marc-Quan Daniels, Mark Fisher, Jake Flowers, Bradley Forrest, Tyler Green, Gabriel Hoekel, Dominic Mueller, Jonathan Parker, Spencer Parkinson, Cam Revelle, Tyree Simms, Christopher Strange, and Da'Kwan Tilson.
On the women's side, the Greenville Panthers sit atop the standings with 49 points and seven first-place votes. Webster follows in second with 43 points and a first-place vote, while Principia comes in third with 37 points.
The women's team comes off a 2022 season where they finished in third at the SLIAC Indoor Championships and fourth at the SLIAC Outdoor Championships.
Five-time All-Conference honoree Madelyn Huffstetter returns for her senior season. Holy Pearce, who earned All-Conference the last two indoor seasons, is back leading the throws group.
Ogechi Okpara looks to continue to make strides in throws, while Alexa Lofgren looks to set more records and build off her All-Conference honors in indoor and outdoor seasons. Jessica Ballard is a newcomer looking to make an immediate impact this year.
