The Fontbonne University women's softball team has opened their 2015 season in grand fashion winning their first four games of a 10-game trip to Florida. The Griffins defeated Moravian (9-8), Oneonta State (2-1), North Park (8-0) and Monmouth (4-2). Fontbonne is 4-0 on the season as they enjoy a day off today.
The season got off to a wild start in the Griffins first game of the season. Fontbonne trailed Moravian 7-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning when senior Cassi Glixman belted a two-out game-tying grand slam. In the bottom of the 10th inning, with the bases loaded and nobody out freshman Courtney Kedroski stole home to win the game.
In their second game of the season, junior Madi Leonard pitched a gem to lead the Griffins to a 2-1 victory. Leonard went all seven innings allowing one run on four hits while striking out eight. Cassi Glixman and junior Caitlin Nappier tallied RBI's for the Griffins.
In their next game, Fontbonne jumped on North Park early scoring seven runs in the first two innings to cruise to a 8-0 victory. Leonard and Cassi Glixman continued their hots starts to help lead the Griffins to victory. Leonard went four scoreless innings to pick up her second straight victoy. She allowed four hits and struck out eight. Cassi went 2-2 with two more RBI's and a run scored. Nappier also drove in two more runs as did junior Emily Smith.
Junior Lindsay Schaefer earned a complete-game victory against Monmouth College allowing just two runs in a 4-2 victory. Fontbonne again rallied from a run down in the seventh inning to earn the win. Senior Shannon Fitzpatrick went 2-3 from the plate with a run score. Cassi Glixman continue her RBI streak driving in one run. Cassi has drove in at least one run in each of the Griffins first four games. She has nine RBI's in four games to start the season. Her twin sister, Dani also drove in a run in the Monmouth victory.
Fontbonne will return to action on Wednesday playing Monmouth (2 pm) and St. Thomas (4 pm).
