Men's Volleyball Cruises Past Greenville For Its Fourth Straight Win

ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The Fontbonne University men's volleyball team extended its winning streak out to four on Tuesday night as they swept past Greenville (25-21, 25-16, 25-13).

Fontbonne (8-2; 3-0 MCVL), found success on both sides of the net once again. The team compiled 39 kills, a .286 hitting percentage, 30 digs and nine blocks.

Individually, Mark Klusman was unstoppable on the outside, finishing with a match-high 13 kills and a .474 hitting percentage. Braden Woolsey also had a strong outing with eight kills and a match-high .583 hitting percentage.

Kyler van Rossum-O'Connell dished out 28 assists, while Zach Rothstein added a match-high 10 digs. Emir Hadzisalihovic also nearly made history in front of the home crowd. Entering the match, he'd compiled 178 career blocks which was just five off the record. Tonight, he concluded with two solo blocks and two block assists, giving him 182 in his career.

On the other side of the court, Greenville (5-8; 1-2 MCVL), finished with a mere 24 kills and committed 23 errors for a .011 hitting percentage. On the offensive side of the net, Nick Corrigan led with seven kills. Tanner Smith handed out 16 assists, while Logan Dameris finished with six digs.

In the first set, after Greenville took a 10-8 lead on a Griffins attack error, the Griffins responded with a 6-0 run to take a 14-10 advantage.

From there, the Griffins maintained its marginal lead but the Panthers were right there at 20-18 on Johnny Milabu's kill. However, Fontbonne fended off Greenville the rest of the way, capped off by Woolsey's kill, to give them the 25-21 win.

In the second set, Fontbonne jumped out to a 13-9 lead on Klusman's kill. They stretched it out to 20-14 on Brendon Schwartze's kill and never looked back, cruising to the 25-16 win on consecutive kills from Woolsey and Klusman.

After totaling just 11 kills and a .143 hitting percentage in the first set, the Griffins bounced back with a match-high 17 kills and a .444 hitting percentage in the second.

The team carried that momentum over from the previous set and went on to dominate the third. The Griffins opened with a 10-4 lead on Stephen Lendy's kill. They expanded it out to 20-9 on another Stephen Lendy kill and cruised on from there for the 25-13 set and match win.

The Griffins close out the month 8-2 overall and currently sit atop the MCVL standings with an unbeaten 3-0 mark.

The team returns to action on the road next weekend when they'll take on No. 12-ranked Mount St. Joseph. First-serve on Friday goes up at 6 p.m.
