KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Fontbonne University men's soccer team earned the 2022-23 United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award, announced the association on Wednesday afternoon.
"We are very proud of our players for the way they represent themselves in all aspects of being student-athletes," stated head coach Donnie Alberty. "They put in a lot of work on the pitch, in the Fontbonne community, and obviously in the classroom. We have received this award for several years in a row and they are very deserving of it. They won't get to run any less at training or anything, but at least they can feel good about themselves while they are doing it."
Alongside Fontbonne, Greenville University, Principia College, and Webster University were the only members of the SLIAC to receive the award.
A total of 808 soccer teams (311 men, 497 women) posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, thereby earning the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award for the 2022-23 academic year. Of that total, 181 schools had both their men's and women's programs recognized.
