Men's Soccer Drops Conference Opener In Double Overtime Against Iowa Wesleyan

MEDIAPOLIS, Iowa.—The Fontbonne University men's soccer team dropped a tough 2-1 (2OT) contest against Iowa Wesleyan in its conference opener.

Final: Iowa Wesleyan 2, Fontbonne 1 (2OT)

How It Happened

In the first half, both teams had a couple chances with the Tigers owning a 5-2 shot advantage but neither team found twine after 90:00 minutes of play.

In the second half, the action picked up for both teams with Fontbonne opening with three straight shots but Tigers goalie Vicent Sanchis kept it a scoreless contest.

It remained a 0-0 game up until the 67:02 mark when a foul was called in the box against Iowa Wesleyan. Trent Calvert stepped up and came through scoring his second goal on the season to give Fontbonne the 1-0 lead.

However, in the 83^rd minute the Tigers scored the equalizer with Gianandres Franceschi Santorsola netting his first on the year to force overtime.

In the first OT, the Tigers outshot Fontbonne 3-1 but none of the four shots landed on net. In the second OT, in the 101^st minute, the Tigers Julio Olmedo had the ball inside the box and his initial save was stopped by Ethan Cowell, though Franceshi Santorsola was at the right place at the right time for the tap in goal and Tigers victory.

• Jared Lyeki and Calvert led with three shots each.
• Joe Noah registered two shots on net.
• Ethan Cowell suffered the tough loss making three saves.
