Seniors Lead Griffins in Season Opener

St. Louis- Last night the Griffins hosted Lindenwood Belleville in their 2013 home opener, as the teams played to a 2-2 draw. Fontbonne's 2013 record is now 1-1-1. 

The Griffins fell behind midway through the 1^st half on a defense splitting pass finished nicely by the Lynx.  After a few tactical adjustments, the Griffins answered with senior Justin Williams (O'Fallon, Mo./Francis Howell) scoring just over a minute into the 2^nd half.

The Lynx took the lead again midway through the 2^nd half on a scramble inside the penalty area. However, a few minutes later Williams finished a nice cross from fellow senior Zach Meyer (Florissant, Mo./McCluer North) after a quick throw-in.  The goal was Williams' second of the game and third of the season.  The Griffins had a few more quality chances, most notably senior Josh Schulz (Florissant, Mo./McCluer North) ringing a shot off the post; while senior Zach Will came up with a huge save with eight seconds remaining in the 2^nd overtime to preserve the tie.

Fontbonne will return to the pitch on Tuesday afternoon as they travel to Illinois College for a 3pm start time. Live stats and video can be found at the following link.
