ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The (RV) Fontbonne University baseball team begins conference play this weekend when they'll host Spalding at Shaw Park. First-pitch at 1 p.m.

A Look At The Griffins

  • Fontbonne saw its three-game slide get snapped in its last outing against Rose-Hulman as the Griffins fell, 11-10.
  • On the year, the offense is batting .303 which ranks second overall in the SLIAC.  
  • Leading the way is senior Jonathan Hoevelmann who's hitting .438, to go along with his 28 hits, 24 runs scored, and 21 stolen bases.
  • He ranks first nationally in stolen bases, 10th in runs scored and 34th in hits.
  • Braeden Dobbs continues to have a strong start with a .364 average and is tied for the team-high with Matt Tossick in RBI (18).
  • Jackson Penrod owns a .338 clip and 17 RBI, while Gus Purschke is batting .339 and leads the Griffins with five doubles.
  • Lance Chapman, meanwhile, has belted a team-high two homers and is hitting .326 on the year.
  • On the mound, the staff has a 2.98 ERA and totaled 133 strikeouts.
  • Luke Summers leads with a 5-0 record in 36.0 innings pitched. He's totaled 55 strikeouts and owns a 0.50 ERA. He's one win away from tying the all-time record at Fontbonne in wins (17).
  • Alex Phillips is 3-0 with a 2.10 ERA, while Mike Jacobson has struck out 19 batters in 16.2 innings of work out of the pen.


A Look At The Spalding Golden Eagles

  • The Golden Eagles took on No. 12 Webster yesterday at home and swept the Gorloks 9-3 in game one and 6-5 in game two.
  • Offensively, the Golden Eagles are batting .285 but have hit 10 triples and 15 homers.
  • On the season, Garrett Wilson paces the offense with a .455 clip, totaling 30 hits, five doubles, three triples and 10 RBI.
  • Eric Meyer owns a .373 average, totaling four homers, and 20 RBI.
  • Quenton Brownlee will be another bat to look out for with his four homers, 20 RBI, and .323 average.
  • On the rubber, the staff has a 5.25 ERA.
  • Zach Jones is 3-0 with a 2.43 ERA and leads the team in strikeouts (36).
  • Dillon Sievert has 29 strikeouts to his name and a 2.70 ERA, while out of the pen Aaron Blake leads with three saves and 20 strikeouts.
