Baseball brings home five All-Conference Awards
St. Louis- The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced All-Conference Awards yesterday. Fontbonne University baseball seniors Sean Fisher and Drew Schlereth were named 1st team All-Conference.
Both Griffins were named Player of the Week once this year. Last year, Schlereth was also named to the 1st team while Fisher was named to the 2nd team in 2012 and 2010. Fisher was recently awarded the Red Schoendienst Award, the highest male athlete award, Monday night at the 2013 Athletic Banquet.
Griffins making it to the All-Conference selection for the first time are freshman Brett Freund and junior Alex Roedner, scoring 2nd team honors and junior Jacob Becker as Honorable Mention.
Senior Matt Suda makes the All-Sportsmanship Team for the second time in his career. Suda also has an Honorable Mention Award under his belt.
As of today, Brett Freund ranks third in the SLIAC with a .386 batting average and Fisher sits in the #5 slot with a .380 average. Jason Schott is ranked #8 and Rob Berger #9 in the same category with .355 and .350 respectively. Schott has seven home runs to sit at the top of the leaderboard and Becker is #9 among pitchers with a 5-6 record. These rankings are for all games.
Among conference-only games, Fisher hit .477 to be #1 in the SLIAC in batting averages. Among SLIAC pitchers, Becker ranks #5 and Schlereth #7.
As a team, the Griffins are ranked #1 in conference games in all of the following categories: at bats, runs, hits, walks, doubles, total bases, home runs, RBI's, and slugging percentage.
