Baseball team sweeps weekly SLIAC awards
The Fontbonne University men's baseball team swept the weekly St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) awards as they earned the Hitter and Pitcher of the Week.
Sean Fisher, a senior from Thousand Oaks, Calif. (Crepi Carmelite), has been named the Diamond Sports Baseball Hitter of the Week for the week of April 1-7.
Fisher hit 12-for-19 (.632) at the plate with eight RBI and three doubles in five games played last week. He also had a .789 slugging percentage and .696 on-base percentage. Fisher's best outing was a 3-for-4 performance with two doubles and three RBI in a 7-1 victory over Blackburn College. He added three hits, including one double and one RBI in the Griffins' lone loss of the week, 8-5 to Blackburn. Fisher also recorded two hits in each of the other three games. He finished the week by going 2-for-3 with two RBI in a 9-3 victory versus Blackburn.
Fontbonne's Andrew Schlereth, a senior from St. Louis, Mo. (Affton), has been named the Diamond Sports Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 1-7.
Schlereth, a right-handed pitcher, threw a no-hitter as the Griffins defeated Greenville College, 3-0. In 7.0 innings on the mound, Schlereth struck out three batters and allowed no walks. He also started the second game of a double header versus Blackburn College and struck out another three batters in 7.0 innings of work.
