The Fontbonne University men's soccer team surrendered a late goal yesterday afternoon enabling Coe College to muster a 1-1 tie with the Griffins. Fontbonne is now 5-2-2 on the season.
Fontbonne controlled play throughout much of the game but struggled to capatilize on its opportunities. The Griffins got on the board first in the 38th minute when senior Charlie Chafin scored his second goal of the season. Fontbonne maintained that 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
In the second half, Fontbonne dominated play outshooting Coe 11-2. Coe however made the most of its chances as they tied the game on a well struck shot in the 78th minute forcing the match into overtime.
The Griffins continued to carry the play in overtime, outshooting Coe 6-1 and holding a 4-0 advantage in corner kicks, but couldn't find the game-winning goal.
Fontbonne will return to the pitch Wednesday night when they host nationally ranked Washington University at 7 pm.
