CARLINVILLE, Ill.—The Fontbonne University baseball team got back over the .500 mark on Saturday after a 12-0 win in game one and a 12-1 (7 inn.) victory in game two against Blackburn. In the first outing, Luke Summers became the all-time wins leader at Fontbonne with 18.

How It Happened

The scoring got started in the second with the Griffins plating two runs on RBI from Tyler Grimes and Joey Casey.

That score remained the same until the top of the fifth. Jonathan Hoevelmann led off with a single. Later, consecutive walks to Jackson Penrod and Braeden Dobbs had the bases loaded for Michael Puckett, Jr.

The Florissant, Mo., native, belted a grand slam to left, his fifth on the year, to extend the Griffins lead out to 6-0. The team added another run in the sixth and put the game away in the seventh.

With one on, Puckett, Jr., struck again with another homer to left, his sixth on the season, to make it a 9-0 contest. Matt Manint went on to score on an error and Hevelmann closed out the inning with a two-run shot of his own to give Fontbonne a 12-0 lead.

That was more than enough for Summers as the junior hurler struck out the side in the bottom half of the inning for the win.
