In his second year as the Strength & Conditioning Coach for Fontbonne University. He's in charge of program design and implementation for all 23 sports. 

Royal served as Cornerbacks Coach for the Morehead State University Eagles during the 2017-2018 season.

Prior to that, he was guest Defensive Backs Coach for the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League.

He spent the 2016 season at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Mo., where he served as Defensive Backs Coach, Recruiting Coordinator, and NFL Liaison.

Royal has held coaching positions at Division I Maryland, Marshall and St. Louis and Division II Glenville State (W.Va). He has also held positions with the Milwaukee Mustangs of the Arena Football League, and South Lakes (Va.) High School. He played collegiately at Marshall.

Royal was the Passing Game Coordinator, Strength and Conditioning Coordinator, Running Backs, Slot Receivers, and Kickoff Return Coach at Glenville in 2014 and 2015. His offenses at Glenville averaged 37.5 points and 471.6 yards per game in his two seasons. He coached two 1,000-yard running backs in the same season, Rahman Lee and Tevin Drake. Not only was that good for first and third place in the league but also the first time in school history that had been accomplished. 

In 2013-2014, Royal served as Strength and Conditioning coach for Saint Louis University’s 16 Olympic Sports. During his time at SLU, Royal assisted in the development of several student-athletes that went on to the professional ranks; most notably, current Major League Pitcher James Norwood. Prior to his time at Saint Louis, he served as a Strength and Conditioning Intern at the University of Maryland.

During his time at Marshall, as Assistant Receivers Coach at Marshall, he helped tutor three NFL Players, including New England Patriots' Second Round Draft Pick Aaron Dobson.

Royal was a standout defensive back at Marshall, finishing second in the NCAA in interceptions as a junior. Following his collegiate career, he spent eight seasons in the Arena Football League, where he set the league record for interceptions, as a rookie, in 2007. He was named Rookie of the Year, and a First-Team All-Arena Selection, the year he set the league record for interceptions in 2007. He currently holds two franchise records for interceptions in the Arena Football League.

Royal has earned a Master of Science in Exercise Physiology from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. He is an ACSM Certified Exercise Physiologist (EP-C), a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the NSCA (CSCS), and a USA Weightlifting Certified Level 1 Sport Performance Coach (USAW-1).
