ST. LOUIS, Mo.—Fontbonne University Director of Athletics, Maria Buckel, is pleased to announce Danielle Doerfler as the Associate Athletic Director.
"First off, I'm thankful to the NCAA and the selection committee for awarding us with an Ethnic Minorities and Women's Internship Grant to assist funding our Associate Athletic Director position," said Buckel. "We plan to continue this position after the three year grant cycle but the initial funding has been instrumental in kick starting this position and playing a part in our role to help diversify college athletic administration."
Second, this search was one of the most competitive searches I've had in my ten year tenure at Fontbonne," Buckel added. "Though there were many great candidates, Danielle's breath of experience and familiarity with Division III and the SLIAC set her apart. It's rare that you can find someone that oversees so many areas as Danielle did at MacMurray. She not only served as the Assistant AD but also coached, was the Tittle IX Coordinator, SWA, SAAC Advisor, and an instructor."
"Danielle's role at Fontbonne may not cover all of these areas but her knowledge and experience are what will make her a well-versed administrator in not only supporting our staff but helping our athletic department forward in many areas we could not cover before. I'm beyond excited to have Danielle join our team and the Fontbonne Family. I look forward to the direction our department can go with the addition of her leadership."
Doerfler is no stranger to the SLIAC after spending her last 10 years at MacMurray. She started in 2009 being the Director/Assistant Professor of Physical Education. From there, in 2011, Doerfler was named the Head Women's Volleyball Coach and continued to hold that position for the last eight years.
"I'm extremely excited and privileged to accept the position of Associate Athletic Director for Fontbonne University," said Doerfler. "I want to thank Director of Athletics Maria Buckel and Vice President of Student Affairs Joe Deighton for this wonderful opportunity. I have an extreme amount of respect for what the athletic department has accomplished here at Fontbonne and I look forward to continuing to strengthen that progress and build upon their established success."
She continued, "I'm eager to assist Maria on the department's future endeavors, while working with the coaches and student-athletes to better their overall experience. I feel blessed to continue to work within Division III, the SLIAC, and I look forward to the future of Fontbonne University Athletics."
In 2012, Doerfler was the Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) Advisor and was also appointed as the Senior Woman Administrator. In 2014, her expansion at MacMurray continued where she was named the Title IX Coordinator. Finally, in 2016, Doerfler was named the Assistant Athletic Director.
While as the Assistant Athletic Director, she completes annual NCAA Compliance reports, serves on all hiring committees for the athletic department, and work in cooperation with IA, Admissions and Alumni Relations to promote the college and engage athletic relationships, while creating fundraising initiatives.
She's a graduate of Illinois College with a Bachelor's of Science in Physical Education, Health Endorsement. She went on to Canisius College to earn her Masters of Science in Physical Education/Sports Management.
Her start date with Fontbonne begins July 1.
