ST. LOUIS, Mo.—Fontbonne University Director of Athletics Danielle Doerfler is pleased to announce softball student-athlete Patience Vandermierden as the 2022-23 Chi Alpha Sigma President.
"Congrats to Patience on accepting the nomination of our first President for Chi Alpha Sigma," said Doerfler. "Patience was a unanimous decision by our committee to take on this role and was equally supported by her coach as a perfect candidate. Patience displays the academic work ethic and success we are proud of, while equally striving on the athletic field. She's also very passionate about citizenship and community service. This is a great honor for her."
The Chi Alpha Sigma President's main role is working with the advisors to plan the induction ceremony for the incoming class and senior graduates. She'll also monitor that the chapter is meeting all its requirements.
This is the second year for Chi Alpha Sigma at Fontbonne which recognizes student-athletes from accredited four-year NCAA, NAIA, NCCAA, and USCAA institutions who excel in both the classroom and competition.
In order to be inducted, a student-athlete must be a junior academic standing or above (5th full semester) and have a 3.4 or higher cumulative GPA. They must be a varsity level student-athlete and club teams can qualify if they're located within the umbrella of the athletic department.
Last year, the Griffins inducted 38 student-athletes into Chi Alpha Sigma.
